Cubs continue road struggles
Chicago dropped the opener with the Phillies on Tuesday night for their third loss in four games. The Cubs are 64-55 overall, 23-36 on the road and 60-54 with the under. Cole Hamels gets the start for Chicago today. He is 6-3 on the season with a 3.09 ERA.
Chicago managed just five hits on Tuesday night in the loss. Nicholas Castellanos continued to play well for the Cubs, hitting his fifth home run with the team. He had two hits and scored twice in the loss. Jose Quintana threw six innings for the Cubs and struck out 14 while giving up one earned run. Kyle Ryan took the loss in relief by allowing the game-winning run.
Phillies get needed win
Philadelphia got a 4-2 win last night for just their second win in seven games. Philly is now 61-58 on the season, 35-26 at home and 61-55 with the under. Aaron Nola gets the start for the Phillies this evening. He is 10-3 on the season with a 3.67 ERA.
Jason Vargas threw six innings and allowed two earned runs in the start on Tuesday night, but he didn’t take a decision. The Phillies bullpen threw three hitless innings. Blake Parker got the win for his first victory while Hector Neris got his 21st save of the season. At the plate, J.T. Realmuto got a home run and drove in two runs to lead the way while Jean Segura had two hits.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are 5-1 in their last six games following a loss and 13-3 in their last 16 Wednesday games.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 10-4 in their last 14 against NL Central opponents and 32-14 in their last 46 home games against a left-handed starter.
Prediction:
This is a pretty solid pitching matchup today. Nola has been pretty good this season for Philly, especially at home where he is 5-1 with a 3.07 ERA. Hamels is coming off a poor start against the Reds on the road, but he has been strong most of the year. However, he struggled against the Phillies earlier this year and has an ERA near 4.00 on the road. Given the struggles the Cubs have had on the road all year, I am going with the home team to grab another win over them.
MLB Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies -115
