Angels’ Heaney allows five runs in win over Tigers
Andrew Heaney allowed five runs over five innings, but managed to pick up his seventh win of the year against the Tigers on Tuesday. Heaney surrendered eight hits, including a two-run homer to Jeimer Candelario in the fifth inning, but struck out six batters and only issued a pair of walks. He threw 55 of 85 pitches for strikes and got 11 runs of support from his offense to pick up the win. The 27-year-old southpaw evens his record at 7-7 with a 3.96 ERA and 122/34 K/BB ratio in 21 starts.
Padres’ Richard allows two runs over five innings
Clayton Richard yielded two earned runs over five innings Tuesday in a no-decision versus the Giants. San Diego ultimately fell in extra innings with the loss going to reliever Phil Maton, who allowed a go-ahead RBI single to Brandon Crawford in the top of the 10th. Richard issued three walks and gave up five hits, including a solo homer to Andrew McCutchen in the top of the fifth inning. The 34-year-old left-hander is 7-10 with a 4.99 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 23 starts this season.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Angels are 5-0 in their last five games when facing a team with a losing record.
San Diego
The Padres have lost 35 of their last 51 games overall.
Prediction:
The Angels are just 1-4 in their last five games against the Padres, are 2-12 in Heaney’s last 14 road starts and are 1-6 in his last seven outings coming off five days of rest. The Padres, meanwhile, are 5-1 in Richard’s last six starts after scoring five runs or more in their previous game. After upsetting the Phillies on Sunday, I like the Pads to cash as a plus team again tonight.
The Pick: San Diego Padres +108
