Royals earn shutout
Kansas City stopped a two-game losing streak to the Tigers on Saturday thanks to the 7-0 win in Detroit. The Royals are 42-76 on the year, 19-41 on the road and 59-53 with the over. Jakob Junis gets the start for the Royals this afternoon. He is 7-10 on the season with a 4.88 ERA.
Mike Montgomery earned his first win of the year on Saturday, striking out 12 Tigers over seven innings while giving up just four hits. KC only had five hits in the win for their seven runs, but the Tigers walked five and committed two errors. Jorge Soler had a two-run home run to lead the Royals. It was his 33rd home run of the season. Whit Merrifield also drove in a pair of runs.
Tigers end brief win streak
The Tigers had rare back-to-back wins on Thursday and Friday, but fell back into losing last night in a shutout performance. Detroit is now 35-79 on the season, 16-40 at home and 55-50 with the under. Detroit has Daniel Norris on the mound today. He is 3-9 on the year with a 4.76 ERA.
Detroit’s pitching was pretty ugly, as the staff combined for five walks while giving up seven runs on five hits. Spencer Turnbull took the loss to fall to 3-10 on the year. He gave up two runs over six innings. At the plate, Detroit had six hits, but all were singles. Brandon Dixon was the lone player with multiple hits for the Tigers.
MLB Betting Trends
The Royals are 10-27 in their last 37 Sunday games and 9-26 in their last 35 following a win.
The Tigers are 2-9 in their last 11 Sunday games and 6-21 in their last 27 division games.
Norris has been okay for the Tigers, but he still gives up multiple runs and has an awful bullpen behind him. Junis hasn’t been much different, but the Royals have better hitting to support him. He has been pretty strong against the Tigers, posting a 3.46 ERA over two starts this year. Norris has a 5.63 ERA against the Royals over two starts. Given Detroit’s lack of hitting an awful bullpen, I will take my chances on the Royals to get another win today.
MLB Prediction: Kansas City Royals -135
