Phillies’ Eflin allows three runs in win over Marlins
Zach Eflin gave up three runs in eight innings while allowing just four base hits and earned a win for his efforts against the Marlins on Saturday. Two of the four hits were round-trippers but other than that he looked really good. He struck out six and didn’t issue a base-on-balls in the quality start. This was his first good outing since he came off the disabled list with blister issues in mid-July. He improves to 8-3 with a 3.61 ERA and fine 1.11 WHIP in 15 starts. He has a strong 78:18 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 84 2/3 innings. He has an attractive match-up against the Padres in San Diego coming up on Friday.
Padres’ Nix to make MLB debut vs. Phillies
MLB.com’s AJ Cassavell reports that Padres pitching prospect Jacob Nix will make his major league debut Friday against the Phillies. Cassavell reported earlier Wednesday that Nix would be called up sometime this weekend and now we have a specific date. The 22-year-old holds a 1.84 ERA and 44/9 K/BB ratio over 58 2/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A this season and is ranked by MLB.com as the team’s No. 14 prospect.
