Mets’ Wheeler strikes out nine over seven shutout innings
Zack Wheeler struck out nine batters while firing seven scoreless innings to earn a win against the Braves on Saturday. He allowed just three knocks and one walk and looked like an ace while dominating a good team. The excellent outing evens his record at 6-6 with a 3.89 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 21 starts. This makes two shutout starts in a row for Wheeler, who has been pitching well all through June, July and now August. He has 125 strikeouts, 43 walks and 11 home runs allowed in 21 starts covering 127 1/3 innings.
Marlins’ Urena allows six runs to Phillies in last start
Jose Urena coughed up six runs in five innings and was charged with a loss to the Phillies on Saturday. He didn’t exactly get nickel-and-dimed either, in fact he was cannon fodder as all six runs came on a trio of deep home runs. Nick Williams blasted a three-run shot in the first inning, Asdrubal Cabrera bashed a two-run bomb in the third and Carlos Santana crushed a solo dinger in the fifth. Urena falls to 3-11 on the season with a 4.66 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 22 starts.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 5-0 in Wheeler’s last five starts but are just 1-4 in their last five road games.
Miami
The Marlins have lost eight of nine overall but are 4-1 in Urena’s last five home starts.
Prediction:
The under has been profitable when these two teams have met, going 5-1-1 in the last seven such occurrences. The under is also 4-1 in Wheeler’s last five road starts against the Marlins, is 3-1-1 in Urena’s last five home outings against the Mets, and is 3-1-1 in his last five starts versus New York overall.
The Pick: Mets/Marlins under 7.5
