Today’s pitching matchup has Kyle Gibson (6-9, 6.03 ERA) on the mound for the Twins to face Zach Davies (13-5, 4.18) of the Brewers. Davies has been able to get through at least seven innings in his last four starts, allowing just four total runs in the process. He now has 88 strikeouts with 41 walks on the season and a 1.36 WHIP. Gibson has had a tough 2017. He has allowed at least three runs in his last four starts. Gibson has 66 strikeouts with 47 walks this year and a 1.71 WHIP.
The Twins are looking to complete a surprising sweep here as they won the first two games in Minnesota and then picked up a 4-0 shutout win in Milwaukee on Wednesday night. The Twins are now 55-56 overall and 29-23 on the road while the Brewers are 59-57 overall and 31-28 at home.
Bartolo Colon managed his second great start for the Twins, going seven scoreless innings while allowing just five hits with five strikeouts to get the win on Wednesday. Brandon Woodruff allowed two runs in 5.2 innings of work to take the loss for Milwaukee. Brian Dozier had his 22nd home run of the season and also doubled to lead the Twins in the win. Miguel Sano also drove in a run for his 72nd RBI of the season.
I’ve been really surprised to see how well the Twins are doing in this series. Their pitching has been coming through and their hitting has really picked up at times. Milwaukee has really looked flat despite having the edge in some of the pitching matchups. Davies could be the one to change all that. He has the clear edge in this start and has been able to work deep into games. Gibson can’t say the same. It the Twins win today, then Milwaukee just can’t beat them.
