Red Sox’ Johnson strikes out 11 Yankees in last start
Brian Johnson surrendered six hits and five runs (four earned) over five innings Thursday in the Red Sox’s win over New York. Johnson finished the night with a career-high 11 strikeouts while also issuing three walks. The left-hander served up three homers—two of them to Didi Gregorius—which accounted for five Yankees runs. This was a bizarre game from start to finish and Johnson certainly had a hand in the absurdity. With Chris Sale (shoulder) expected back Wednesday, Johnson will likely return to a long relief role following Thursday’s start.
Blue Jays’ sign ex-Astro Hauschild, who will start Wednesday
Blue Jays signed RHP Mike Hauschild. Hauschild was released by Houston earlier this week but obviously, it didn’t take him long to resurface. He’ll be available out of the pen Thursday night in Seattle. The 28-year-old has contributed an ugly 11.25 ERA over four major league outings this year
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are 10-2 in Johnson’s last 12 starts.
Toronto
The Blue Jays have lost four straight at home.
Prediction:
That was brutal last night if you had the under. The two teams combined to score just four runs heading into the top of 8th inning but Boston scratched together four runs in its top of the frame and Toronto hung one on the board to push the combined score to nine runs. Under bettors were still feeling okay heading into the bottom of the ninth before Toronto hit a home run to tie the game at 5-5 and thus, push the combined score over.
Nevertheless, I’m back for more punishment tonight. Despite the finish last night, the under is 7-2 in the last nine meetings between these two teams in Toronto. It is also 7-3-1 in Johnson’s last 11 starts, is 5-2-1 in the Red Sox’ last eight games and is 12-3-1 in their last 16 games versus a right-handed starter.
The Pick: Red Sox/Blue Jays under 9.5
