Orioles edged in opener
The Orioles suffered a 4-3 loss to the Rays in the series opener on Tuesday. They have lost four of their last five games. Baltimore is now 34-79 overall and 14-44 on the road. Baltimore is putting up just 3.90 runs per game this season while allowing 5.31 per contest.
Andrew Cashner is on the mound for the Orioles this evening. He is 3-10 through 21 starts with a 5.05 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP. Cashner has pitched 114.0 innings this season and has 86 strikeouts with 50 walks.
Rays swept at home
The Rays ended a three-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 4-3 win to get back over the .500 mark. Tampa is now 57-56 overall and 33-23 at home. The Rays are putting up 4.20 runs per contest this year while allowing 4.18 per contest.
Ryne Stanek gets the start for the Rays today. The reliever is making his 18th start of the year as Tampa uses the reliever to start often. He has a 1-3 record with a 2.27 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP. Stanek has 56 strikeouts and 19 walks over 43.2 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
The Orioles have lost five of Cashner’s last six road starts and 14 of his last 19 starts overall.
Tampa
The Rays are 21-7 in their last 28 home games and 2-5 in their last seven games against a right-handed starter.
Prediction:
The Rays have had pretty good success with Stanek on the mound, winning five of the last seven when he has pitched. One of the losses was to Baltimore, but he has not allowed a run in seven of his last eight appearances. Cashner was absolutely lit up by Texas in his last start, but I don’t see that happening today. He should be competitive, but the Orioles just don’t have the hitting or bullpen to really help him out tonight.
The Pick: Tampa Bay Rays -175
