Phillies falter late
Philadelphia allowed six runs between the sixth and eighth innings Tuesday night to let a lead slip away in an 8-4 loss at Arizona. Corey Dickerson helped lead the Phillies offense as he ended the game 2-for-5 with a solo home run. Jean Segura finished 3-for-5 with a run scored. Adam Haseley went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Ranger Suarez suffered the loss in relief as he surrendered two earned runs on one hit with one strikeout and two walks over one-third of an inning. Jason Vargas gets the start for Philadelphia tonight as he enters with a 6-5 record, 3.93 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 86 strikeouts over 100 2/3 innings.
D-backs hit three homers in wn
Arizona doubled up visiting Philadelphia Tuesday night with an 8-4 victory to improve to 57-57 overall and 26-28 on the road. Eduardo Escobar led the Diamondbacks offense as he ended the game 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two runs scored and three RBIs. Alex Avila finished 2-for-3 with a homer, a walk and three RBIs. David Peralta was 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Andrew Chafin picked up the win in relief as he struck out both batters he faced. Zac Gallen will make his Arizona debut tonight after going 1-3 with a 2.72 ERA and 1.18 WHIP plus 43 strikeouts across 36 1/3 innings with Miami.
MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 4-1 in their last five road games. Philadelphia is 2-6 in its last eight Wednesday games.
Arizona
The D-backs are 11-4 in their last 15 game threes of a series. Arizona is 13-5 in the last 18 meetings.
Prediction:
Gallen has a four-pitch arsenal and can dial up his fastball when needed, which intrigued the Diamondbacks enough to trade a top prospect for him. But he could have first-game jitters here with a new team and Vargas can often frustrate opposing hitters and keep them off balance. With Philadelphia having the better season overall and still competing for a playoff spot, I like its chances to secure a win here.
