Marlins fall to Rays
Miami is coming off a short two-game sweep at the hands of the Rays this weekend. The Marlins have dropped four of their last five. Miami is now 42-67 on the season, 20-32 on the road and 54-50 with the under. Sandy Alcantara gets the start for the Marlins today. He is 4-10 on the season with a 4.54 ERA.
Miami is one of the worst teams in the league when it comes to hitting, averaging just 3.63 runs per game while batting .237 as a team. On the mound, the Marlins have a 4.38 team ERA with a 1.32 team WHIP, which both rank in the middle of the league. Brian Anderson is leading the team with 24 doubles, 17 home runs and 54 RBI. Starlin Castro is adding 14 doubles, nine home runs and 45 RBI.
Mets rolling
After an interesting trade deadline, the Mets have been on a roll. They are coming off a series win in Pittsburgh this weekend and have won nine of their last 10. New York is 55-56 on the year, 28-20 at home and 56-45 with the over. The Mets have Jacob deGrom on the mound today. He is 6-7 on the season with a 2.78 ERA.
The Mets are in the middle of the pack of the league in both hitting and pitching. New York has a 4.47 team ERA with a 1.34 team WHIP on the mound. At the plate, the Mets are putting up 4.78 runs per game while batting .254. Pete Alonso is leading the team with 23 doubles, 34 home runs and 78 RBI. Michael Conforto is adding 20 doubles, 22 home runs and 58 RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
Miami
The Marlins are 25-58 in their last 83 road games and 19-44 in their last 63 against NL East opponents.
New York
The Mets have won four straight at home and 13 of their last 16 against right-handed starters.
Prediction:
The Mets are on fire right now and deGrom is as well. He has given up just two earned runs over his last four starts, a total of 26 innings. He has a lot of knowledge on Miami as well, getting four starts against them. deGrom is 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA against the Marlins this year. Alcantara has been struggling, giving up at least four runs in three of his last four starts, including one against the Mets. New York is on fire, but you can’t take them straight up. There is just no value there. Given how well deGrom is pitching, I would feel good about the Mets winning by multiple runs in this opener.
MLB Prediction: New York Mets -1.5 (-145)
