Strasburg blasted in loss
Washington had a rough go of it Saturday night at Arizona to the tune of a 18-7 defeat. Stephen Strasburg was hit hard in taking the loss as he surrendered nine earned runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts and two walks over 4 2/3 innings. Anthony Rendon led the Nats offense as he finished 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and four RBIs. Trea Turner went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. Kuirt Suzuki finished 2-for-4 with a walk and a run. Patrick Corbin will start today for Washington as he enters with a 9-5 record, 3.23 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 159 strikeouts over 136 1/3 innings.
Escobar leads huge offensive outburst
Arizona brought out the big bats Saturday night at home in an 18-7 victory over Washington. Eduardo Escobar paced the big night as he finished 3-for-7 with two home runs, a walk and seven RBIs. Alex Avila went 2-for-4 with a homer, a walk, two runs and three RBIs. Nick Ahmed was 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and three runs scored. Jake Lamb ended the game 1-for-4 with a homer, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Robbie Ray picked up the win on the mound as he gave up four earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and no walks over five innings. Taylor Clarke gets the start this afternoon as he enters with a 4-3 record, 5.53 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 45 strikeouts across 57 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
Washington
The Nationals are 7-3 in their last 10 Sunday games. Washington is 7-1 in the last eight Corbin starts.
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 1-4 in their last five Sunday games. Arizona is 4-1 in the last five Clarke starts.
Prediction:
I can see an argument for both sides, but I often like fading inconsistent teams after an offensive explosion and the D-backs certainly fit that bill. Corbin is a strong pitcher and will give Arizona a different look after getting after Strasburg yesterday. While Clarke has been better as of late, he’s still a rookie and I think he hits a stumbling block here in a tough matchup.
