Rays stay hot
Tampa has taken the first two games of this series thanks to an 8-5 win on Wednesday night. Tampa has now won five of its last six. The Rays are 62-48 on the season, 34-22 on the road and 54-47 with the under. Tampa has Brendan McKay getting the start tonight. He is 1-1 on the year with a 3.72 ERA.
The Rays started fast on Wednesday night, putting up five runs over the first two innings. That was enough for Ryan Yarbrough, who threw 4.1 innings of relief and got his 10th win despite giving up four runs. Chaz Roe earned his first save of the year with a scoreless ninth. At the plate, the Rays had three home runs. Austin Meadows drove in three runs on his 16th home run of the year while Willy Adames and Kevin Kiermaier each had solo shots.
Red Sox lose another
Boston has lost three straight games after losing the first two of this series to Tampa. The Red Sox are 59-50 on the season, 27-28 at home and 65-41 with the over. Boston hands the ball over to Andrew Cashner. He is 10-5 on the year with a 4.18 ERA.
Rick Porcello took his eighth loss of the year on Wednesday, but giving up six runs over 5.2 innings. He struck out seven but gave up the three home runs. At the plate for Boston, both J.D. Martinez and Michael Chavis hit solo home runs. Martinez had three hits and two RBI to lead the way. Mookie Betts also had three hits.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa
The Rays are 4-1 in their last five road games and 5-1 in their last six AL East contests.
Boston
The Red Sox are 5-2 in their last seven games following a loss and 25-3 in their las t28 when losing the first two games of a series.
Prediction:
Cashner hasn’t been too sharp since joining the Red Sox from the Orioles. In three starts, he has given up 13 runs over 18.2 innings. McKay hasn’t been anything special either. He has given up nine runs over his last 13.1 innings. Tampa has had to use a lot of arms this series and McKay doesn’t go deep into games. I think that that will be an issue today. The Rays will either have to stick with him if he struggles, or go to other tired arms against a strong Boston lineup. I think Cashner can do enough to compete and the Red Sox bats break loose late to get the win.
MLB Prediction: Boston Red Sox -125
