Giants’ Rodriguez rock-solid against Brewers
Dereck Rodriguez yielded two runs on five hits over six innings while taking a no-decision in Thursday’s loss to the Brewers. In a low-scoring contest early on, Rodriguez was denied a potential victory when Christian Yelich knocked him for a solo home run in the sixth inning to tie up the game at 2-2. That would be his final inning of work. Both offenses would soften up each other’s bullpens before the Brewers ultimately came away with a 7-5 win. He finished up the evening having struck out five, walked two and thrown 91 pitches (61 strikes). Rodriguez will bring his 2.75 ERA and 1.15 WHIP (59 innings) into a road date with the Padres when he next toes the rubber.
Padres’ Richard allows six runs to Mets
Clayton Richard surrendered six runs in five-plus innings Wednesday against the Mets. Things escalated quickly in the fifth; Richard retired the first 12 batters he faced today and then just three of the next 10. He fell to 7-10 with a 5.05 ERA on the season. He leads the NL in earned runs (64) and hits (125) allowed.
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The Giants have won six of Rodriguez’s last seven starts overall.
San Diego
The Padres are just 1-5 in Richard’s last six starts.
Prediction:
The over is 4-0 in Richard’s last four starts versus the Giants and 5-1 in his last six home outings against San Francisco. The over has also been an excellent play in San Diego games, cashing in five of its last six contests with one push. Finally, the over is 3-1-1 in the Giants’ last five games overall and is 20-8-3 in their last 31 games versus an opponent with a winning percentage below .400.
The Pick: Giants/Padres over 8
