Rays looking for another win
Tampa is coming off a series win in Toronto this weekend and the Rays are looking for revenge after dropping two of three to Boston at home last week. The Rays are 60-48 on the season, 32-22 on the road and 54-45 with the under. Tampa has Charlie Morton getting the start today. He is 12-3 on the year with a 2.60 ERA.
The Rays have one of the league’s top pitching staffs, as they are second in team ERA (3.57) and third in team WHIP (1.16) and strikeouts (1,048). At the plate, Tampa is averaging 4.62 runs per game while batting .253. Tommy Pham has been leading the team with 18 doubles, 16 home runs and 46 RBI. Austin Meadows is adding 17 doubles, 15 home runs and 47 RBI.
Red Sox take three from Yankees
Boston is coming off a four-game series win over the Yankees at home this weekend. The Sox have won five of their last seven, including two wins at Tampa. Boston is 59-48 on the season, 27-26 at home and 63-41 with the over. David Price is getting the start for the Red Sox today. He is 7-4 on the year with a 3.66 ERA.
The Red Sox are now the league’s top offense, as they rank first in the majors in runs per game (5.85) and batting average (.276). On the mound, Boston has just a 4.66 team ERA with a 1.35 team WHIP. They are second in the league in strikeouts (1,082). Rafael Devers is leading the team with 36 doubles, 21 home runs and 82 RBI. Xander Bogaerts is adding 36 doubles, 23 home runs and 81 RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa
The Rays are just 1-6 in their last seven Tuesday games and 2-5 in their last seven games following an off day.
Boston
The Red Sox are 5-0 in their last five after a loss and 5-1 in their last six home games.
Prediction:
This should be a pretty special pitching matchup. Morton has been one of the best in the majors this year and he comes into today with a 3.32 ERA and 2-0 record against Boston over three starts this year. Price has been in a slight funk in recent weeks, but still has impressive numbers. In four starts against the Rays this year, he is 1-2 with a 3.13 ERA. On paper, Morton looks to have a slight edge, but Boston’s lineup is just so much stronger. I don’t know that Morton and the Tampa pen will be able to keep the Boston bats back in Fenway. Tampa just doesn’t have the same firepower if the Sox start hitting.
MLB Prediction: Boston Red Sox -130
