Brewers take three of four at Giants
National League Wild Card-leading Milwaukee won the first three games in its four-game series at San Francisco over the weekend, but dropped Sunday’s finale by a score of 8-5. The Brewers scored twice in the first inning to grab a 2-0 lead, but quickly fell behind 5-2 through four innings. Christian Yelich improved his batting average to .320 by going 2-for-4 with a run. Ryan Braun was 1-for-4 with a 2-run homer. Hernan Perez finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Manny Pina ended the contest 2-for-4. Orlando Arcia went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run. Travis Shaw was 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit home run. Junior Guerra suffered the loss as he allowed five earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks over four innings.
Taylor breaks up no-hitter
Dodgers shortstop Chris Taylor broke up the no-hitter of Atlanta lefty Sean Newcomb with two outs in the ninth inning Sunday. Los Angeles proceeded to score on an RBI single by Manny Machado off reliever Dan Winkler, but LA was unable to get any closer in the 4-1 loss. The Dodgers still managed to win three out of four in the series and the defeat ended its four-game win streak. Ross Stripling took the loss as he allowed four earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk over four innings.
Freddy Peralta (4-2, 3.74 ERA) gets the call today for Milwaukee, while Los Angeles counters with Kenta Maeda (7-5, 3.27).
MLB Betting Trends
Milwaukee
The Brewers are 4-10 in their last 14 road games. Milwaukee is 20-8 in its last 28 games against the NL West.
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 6-0 in their last six home games versus a right-handed pitcher. Los Angeles is 5-1 in its last six games versus the NL Central.
Prediction:
Los Angeles had a rough day at the office Sunday, but with Maeda on the mound it should bounce back today. Peralta had an impressive start to his MLB career, but has struggled with control and the opposition has started to take more advantange. I don’t think he can get through unscathed against a loaded LA offense looking to bounce back quickly.
