A’s Montas only pitches five innings vs. Rangers
Frankie Montas allowed four runs – three earned – over five innings Tuesday, getting a no-decision in the Athletics’ 13-10 extra-innings win. Willie Calhoun led off the fifth inning with a solo home run off of Montas to put the Rangers in front and Texas added another tally in the frame. The right-hander gave up five hits and two walks on the night while fanning three. Montas is one of the hardest-throwing starters in baseball but so far that isn’t leading to strikeouts, as he’s whiffed only 33 over his 53 1/3 innings. He has managed a 3.54 ERA, but the 1.39 WHIP and lack of swings and misses points to darker days ahead. Montas should certainly be avoided Sunday in Colorado.
Rockies’ Marquez receives tons of run support in win over D-Backs
German Marquez allowed two earned runs, five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over six innings in a victory Wednesday against Arizona. Marquez coughed up a solo homer to Paul Goldschmidt in the top of the first inning, but then settled down nicely. It is also very relaxing when your team stakes you to a four-run lead after the first inning, and an 18-1 lead after just four frames. He also helped out his own cause with a solo bomb off of position player Daniel Descalso in the fifth inning. Marquez finished the first half with three straight victories to record an 8-8 record and 4.81 ERA across 19 starts.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The A’s are 4-1 in Montas’ last five starts and are a perfect 5-0 in his last five road outings.
Colorado
The Rockies are 4-0 in Marquez’s last four starts and are 20-8 in their last 28 games coming off a win.
Prediction:
Both of these teams can mash and they’re playing at hitter-friendly Coors Field but so far the only people cashing in are under bettors as oddsmakers continue to post high totals in this series. I don’t see anything changing for today and thus, I’m going right back to the well with the under. In the last 17 meetings between these two teams, the under is 13-3-1. In the last eight meetings in Colorado, the under has cashed six times. This might be the game that finally burns me but with the total sitting at 12, it’s worth the risk.
The Pick: A’s/Rockies under 12
