Mets vs. Pirates Prediction
The New York Mets continue to fail Jacob deGrom with a lack of run support during his starts. Will that change today when New York plays the host Pittsburgh Pirates in the third game of a four-game series?

Freese wins it with walk-off hit
David Freese provided the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth Friday night as his RBI single scored Josh Harrison and sent the Pirates to a 5-4 victory. Freese finished the game 3-for-3 with a home run, two walks and five RBIs. Jordan Luplow was 0-for-3, but drew two walks and scored a run. Gregory Polanco finished 2-for-5 with a run. Elias Dias went 2-for-3 with two walks and a run. Jordy Mercer was 1-for-3 and drew a walk. Felipe Vazquez picked up the win as he gave up one hit and struck out two in an inning of work.
Conforto homers in loss
Mets left fielder Michael Conforto finished 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two runs and three RBIs in Friday’s defeat. Brandon Nimmo was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk. Wilmer Flores went 2-for-5 with a double and a run. Jose Bautista finished 1-for-3 with a walk. Tim Peterson gave up one earned run on three hits with one walk without recording an out to take the loss.
New York will send deGrom (5-5, 1.71 ERA) to the mound today, while Pittsburgh counters with Trevor Williams 8-7, 4.11).
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 17-36 in their last 53 games on grass. The under is 12-3-1 in the last 16 deGrom starts overall.
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 14-3 in their last 17 games overall. The under is 23-6-2 in the last 31 Pittsburgh games on Saturdays.
Prediction:
One of these days deGrom is going to get the support he deserves, right? Maybe it will be today, but I can’t bet on it. The Mets seem to press when he is on the mound and it leads to horrendous results, such as the 3-2 loss at home to the Padres his last start. Williams has had his moments this season and the Mets at home seems like a perfect opportunity for him to have one of his better outings. I hate fading a pitcher as good as deGrom, but betting on New York with him on the mound certainly hasn’t been profitable.
