Kershaw outstanding in win
Dodgers ace lefty Clayton Kershaw mowed down Atlanta with regularity in Friday’s 4-1 victory as he gave up one earned run on six hits with eight strikeouts and one walk over 7 2/3 innings to earn the win. Kenley Jansen threw 1 1/3 innings of perfect relief with two strikeouts to notch his 30th save. Manny Machado finished 2-for-5 with a double, while Yasmani Grandal had a solo home run in five at-bats. Matt Kemp was 0-for-2 but drew two walks and scored a run. Chris Taylor went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run. Alex Verdugo was 1-for-4 with a solo home run. Kershaw finished 1-for-2 with three walks and two RBIs to help his own cause.
Inciarte drives in lone run
Ender Inciarte had an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning to give the Braves a 1-0 lead, but a run by the Dodgers in the third and three more in the fourth turned the tables. It was Inciarte’s only hit in three at-bats. Nick Markakis was 2-for-4 with a double, while Kurt Suzuki went 1-for-3 and scored the only run. Mike Foltynewicz took the loss as he allowed four earned runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and three walks over five innings.
Alex Wood (6-5, 3.87 ERA) gets the start today for LA, while Atlanta counters with Max Fried (1-3, 3.92).
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 4-1 against Atlanta this season. The over is 4-1 in five meetings this season.
Atlanta
The Braves are 28-17 after a loss this year. Atlanta is 30-22 against teams with a winning record this season.
Prediction:
Wood has been inconsistent this season, but could be starting to find his form. After Kershaw pitches, however, isn’t a desirable slot to be in. Atlanta has a good offense, especilally at home, and should be able to get to Wood some. Fried has one great start to his credit at the MLB level this season, but every other time he has been a run-of-the-mill starter. Los Angeles’ offense is a minefield right now and I don’t think Fried escapes. I like both offenses today and for the total to go over.
