Rays take series opener
Tampa Bay secured a 3-1 victory Friday night at Toronto to improve to 59-47 overall and 31-21 on the road. Ryan Yarbrough picked up the win as the bulk reliever as he allowed one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk over 5 1/3 innings. Colin Poche threw a perfect ninth inning for his first save of the season. Travis d’Arnaud helped lead the offense as he finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Austin Meadows was 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk and an RBI. Tommy Pham ended the game 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Andrew Kittredge gets the start as the opener today for the Rays as he enters with a 1-0 record, 2.55 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 19 strikeouts over 17 2/3 innings.
Blue Jays held to four hits
Toronto fell by a score of 3-1 at home Friday night to drop to 39-66 overall and 19-33 at home. Justin Smoak paced the Blue Jays as he finished 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Freddy Galvis went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Brandon Drury was 1-for-3 with a double. Jacob Waguespack took the loss as he gave up three earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and three walks over five innings. Ryan Borucki draws the start tonight as he allowed four earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and four walks over 4 2/3 innings in his first start of the season July 22 to take the loss in a 7-3 home defeat versus Cleveland.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 2-5 in their last seven games versus the AL East. Tampa Bay is 0-5 in its last five game twos of a series.
Toronto
The Blue Jays are 2-6 in their last eight home games. Toronto is 4-1 in its last five Saturday games.
Prediction:
Tampa Bay has perfected the opener system it seems and Kittredge should get the visitors off to a good start here. Borucki on the other hand is very hittable and while the Rays offense has struggled lately, they are due for a bust out effort. I like Tampa Bay to notch a second straight road win over its weaker opponent.
