From Rotoworld: Arrieta whiffed six while holding the Cardinals to two runs over six innings but took a no-decision Friday. Arrieta served up a solo homer in the second inning to Randal Grichuk and back-to-back doubles in the third, but the Cards didn’t do anything else off of him. He exited with a 3-2 lead and in line for his 10th victory, but the Cubs’ bullpen fell apart in the eighth during which St. Louis plated nine runs. Still, it was another nice showing for Arrieta, who boasts a 2.13 ERA in four July outings. He gets the White Sox at home next.
Shields was knocked around for six runs over 4 1/3 innings against the Royals on Friday. Shields didn’t factor into the decision. He gave up 10 hits (including a solo homer to Mike Moustakas) and walked three. He’s now allowed six runs in three out of his six starts since returning from the disabled list. His days of fantasy relevance appear numbered.
