Verdugo breaks tie on wild pitch
Dodgers outfielder Alex Verdugo was called up to the majors Tuesday and immediately made an impact as he drew a leadoff walk in the top of the ninth inning and eventually broke a 5-5 tie by scoring on a wild pitch from Seranthony Dominguez. Matt Kemp added an RBI single in the frame and LA held on for a 7-6 victory. Joc Pederson went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs to help pace the offense. Max Muncy was 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Yasmani Grandal was 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk. Kemp went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Chris Taylor finished 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a double and a walk. Scott Alexander earned the win in relief as he threw a perfect inning with one strikeout. Kenley Jansen worked around a solo home run in the ninth inning, striking out two to pick up his 29th save.
Franco homers twice in loss
Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco had a strong night in defeat as he ended the game 3-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs. He pulled Philly within 7-6 with his homer to lead off the bottom of the ninth. Rhys Hoskins contributed a 3-run homer in four at-bats. Odubel Herrera went 1-for-4 with a solo home run. Dominguez took the loss in relief as he allowed two earned runs on one hit with one strikeout and three walks in one-third of an inning.
Kenta Maeda (7-5, 3.12 ERA) draws the start today for the Dodgers, while Philadelphia will counter with ace Aaron Nola (12-3, 2.30).
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 20-7 in their last 27 road games. Los Angeles is 40-18 in its last 58 games overall.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 6-2 in their last eight home games. The under is 10-4 in the last 14 Philadelphia home games.
Prediction:
Not too many pitchers can slow down the LA offense these days, but Nola has the arsenal to get it done. He already has one win at Dodger Stadium this season and there is no reason he can’t get another in his home stadium. Maeda is a strong starting pitcher, but is capable of a poor outing. I’m going to take the plus money with Nola and the hosts in this spot.
