Nats pound out 15 hits in win
Washington salvaged a split of a two-game home series that included a postponement, winning Sunday by a count of 6-2 at home against Atlanta. Max Scherzer picked up the win as he allowed two earned runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over six innings. Kelvin Herrera threw the final 1 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball to earn his first save with the Nationals, giving up two hits and striking out one. Adam Eaton helped pace the Nats offense as he was 3-for-4 with two runs. Bryce Harper finished 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Anthony Rendon ended the game 2-for-5 with a triple, a run and two RBIs. Juan Soto finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, a run and an RBI. Matt Adams went 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI, while Daniel Murphy ended the contest 2-for-4.
Brewers pounded in finale by Dodgers
Milwaukee fell behind quickly and could not recover Sunday afternoon in an 11-2 home loss to Los Angeles. The Brewers dropped two of three in the series as their struggles continue. Christian Yelich stayed hot as he went 2-for-3 with a run before being pulled from the game early. Lorenzo Cain was a perfect 2-for-2 with a walk before also leaving the game early. Travis Shaw finished 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Brent Suter suffered the loss as he gave up six earned runs in eight hits with three strikeouts and no walks over three innings of work.
Gio Gonzalez (6-6, 3.72 ERA) starts today for Washington, while Milwaukee turns to Jhoulys Chacin (8-3, 3.68).
MLB Betting Trends
Washington
The Nationals are 4-12 in their last 16 road games. The under is 49-20-6 in the last 75 Washington games on the road.
Milwaukee
The over is 6-2 in the last eight games versus the NL East. The Brewers are 17-7 in their last 24 games after scoring two or less runs their previous game.
Prediction:
Neither starting pitcher has thrown particularly well as of late, but I trust Chacin at home a little bit more. Milwaukee has played well at home all season and we can ignore the weeked series against the most powerful team in the National League. I think the Brewers take advantage of Washington’s struggles here and get a victory here.
