Dodgers roll in rubber game at Brewers
Los Angeles manufactured five-run frames in the second and fifth innings Sunday afternoon to open up an 11-2 lead at that point, which is where the score would remain the rest of the way. Chris Taylor was 1-for-4 with a run and three RBIs from the top of the lineup. Machado and Max Muncy both finished 2-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI. Cody Bellinger was 1-for-2 with a triple, a walk and a run after entering the game as a reserve. Matt Kemp was 3-for-5 with two solo home runs and three runs scored. Logan Forsythe ended the game 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs and an RBI. Austin Barnes finished 1-for-4 with a hit-by-pitch and two RBIs. Alex Wood earned the win as he allowed two earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks over six innings.
Phillies split doubleheader
Philadelphia dropped the opener of Sunday’s doubleheader against the Padres by a count of 10-2, but rebounded with a 5-0 shutout win in the nightcap. Nick Pivetta suffered the loss in the opener as he allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits with nine strikeouts and no walks over 5 1/3 innings. Rhys Hoskins paced the offense by going 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and two runs. Odubel Herrera finished 2-for-4, while Carlos Santana drew a pair of walks in four plate appearances. In game two, Vince Velasquez was outstanding as he threw seven shutout innings of two hits ball, striking out seven and walking one. Santana finished 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI from the leadoff spot. Hoskins finished 1-for-4 with a 3-run homer. Herrera contributed a solo home run in four at-bats. Nick Williams ended the game 3-for-4 with a double.
Ross Stripling (8-2, 2.08 ERA) will start today for LA, while the Phillies are turning to Zach Eflin (7-2, 3.15).

Prediction:
It’s going to be difficult to pick against the Dodgers in a lot of spots going forward as it is a team with few weaknesses. Stripling has been a very pleasant surprise in the rotation, while Machado makes the Dodgers offense a force to be reckoned with. On the flip side, Philadelphia has been one of MLB’s biggest surprises and Eflin has settled in nicely to the rotation. I’d pick Philadelphia here, but it is coming off a home doubleheader so travel fatigue won’t be as much of a disadvantage for Los Angeles. I’m going to bet on the Dodgers to continue their strong play in tonight’s series opener.
