Red Sox’ Porcello allows eight runs in loss to Blue Jays
Rick Porcello lasted two-plus innings while giving up a season-high eight runs Friday against the Blue Jays as the Red Sox saw their 10-game winning streak come to an end. It was his shortest outing of the season. The Red Sox were actually leading 6-3 going into the top of the third inning, but Porcello allowed the first five batters to reach before being pulled. He gave up two homers and an RBI double along the way. Porcello walked four batters in the loss and saw his ERA jump from 3.58 to 4.13. It wasn’t the way he wanted to end the first half, but he still owns an 11-4 record.
Orioles’ Gausman serves up 12 hits, five runs to Phillies
Kevin Gausman allowed 12 hits and five runs over five-plus innings in a loss to the Phillies on Thursday. Not really the start Gausman was looking for heading into a break, as he got behind with a pair of two-run innings in the third and fourth before being charged with another run in the sixth. It was his first loss since June 15 and dropped him to 4-7 overall. The right-hander will carry a 4.33 ERA and 1.37 WHIP into the All-Star break.
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox have won 40 of their last 56 games overall.
Baltimore
The Orioles have dropped 39 of their last 57 home games.
Prediction:
The over has cashed in six of Porcello’s last seven road starts, is 10-2-1 in his last 13 outings overall, and is a near-perfect 4-0-1 in his last five outings against the rest of the American League East. On the other side, the over is 4-1-1 in the Orioles’ last six games against divisional foes, is 5-1-2 in their last eight games against a right-handed starter, and is 6-1 in their last seven games played on Monday. Boston owns one of the best offenses in baseball and Baltimore some of the worst pitching. I like the over tonight.
