Oakland splits at Minnesota

Oakland is coming off a four-game split on the road against the Minnesota Twins this weekend. The Athletics have won eight of their last 10 games coming into today. Oakland is now 57-43 on the season, 26-23 on the road and 52-48 with the under. The A’s have Homer Bailey getting the start tonight. He is 8-6 on the season with a 4.69 ERA.

The Athletics are steady at the plate and on the mound this season. Oakland is averaging 5.21 runs per game at the plate while batting .251 as a team. On the mound, the Athletics are posting a 3.99 team ERA with a 1.26 team WHIP. Matt Chapman is leading the team with 26 doubles, 22 home runs and 59 RBI. Ramon Laureano is adding 24 doubles, 20 home runs, 53 RBI and 12 stolen bases.

Astros on a hot streak

Houston has won five straight games after sweeping the Rangers at home this weekend. The Astros are now 64-37 overall, 36-14 at home and 53-43 with the under. Houston has Gerrit Cole getting the start tonight. He is 10-5 on the season with a 3.12 ERA.

The Astros are also very solid at the plate and on the mound. Houston posts a 3.85 team ERA as a pitching staff with a 1.15 team WHIP. At the plate, the Astros average 5.20 runs per game while hitting .271 as a team. Alex Bregman is leading the team with 15 doubles, 26 home runs and 62 RBI. Yuli Gurriel is adding 25 doubles, 18 home runs and 60 RBI.

MLB Betting Trends

Oakland

The Athletics are 12-1 in their last 13 games following a loss and 7-1 in their last 8 AL West games.

Houston

The Astros have won 49 of their last 69 home games and 50 of their last 71 series openers.

Prediction:

Homer Bailey is making his second start with the Athletics today. His first start was solid, giving up just two runs over six innings against the Mariners. Cole has been stronger, though, as he has given up one run or less in five of his last six starts. Cole is also very steady at getting through at least six innings. He is also a strikeout master, which I think will be a problem for the Athletics this evening. Houston has dominated the series this year, winning seven of the eight meetings.

MLB Prediction: Houston Astros -245
