St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Matt Wieters went 1-for-3 with a solo homer in a loss to the Reds on Saturday. Wieters accounted for the only run off of Luis Castillo on Saturday, as he hit a solo shot off Castillo in the sixth to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. The switch-hitting backstop has homered seven times on the year, and the RBI gives him 16 on the year. Wieters is swinging the bat better than he was earlier in the year — that’s at least partially due to him getting more consistent playing time — so don’t be completely thrown off by his .238/.297.465 line. He’s better/has been better than that.
Cincinnati Reds Fantasy Spin
Josh VanMeter went 2-for-4 and broke a tie with a two-run homer on on Saturday in a win over the Cardinals. The homer was a big one for a variety of reasons, as it was not only a two-run shot to give the Reds a 3-1 lead, it was also the first of VanMeter’s MLB career. In 51 at-bats with Cincinnati, he’s hitting .255/.373/.377 with six RBI and a steal. He’s nothing more than a bench bat as long as he’s with the Reds, and VanMeter doesn’t have any short or long-term fantasy value.
MLB Betting Trends
St. Louis
The Cardinals are 6-2 in their last eight games overall and 6-2 in their last eight games versus a right-handed starter.
Cincinnati
The Reds have dropped four of their last five games overall and are 2-8 in their last 10 games versus a right-handed starter.
Prediction:
The Reds have won four of Anthony DeSclafani’s last five home starts versus the Cardinals and 5-1 in their last six games when their opponent scores two runs or less in their previous contest. On the other side, the Cardinals are winless in Jack Flaherty’s last five starts, mainly because they haven’t given him much run support. They’re also 1-8 in his last nine outings following a Quality Start in his last appearance.
The Pick: Cincinnati Reds -103
