Blue Jays on long road trip
Toronto has been on a 7-game road trip thus far against the Yankees and Red Sox. The Jays are 2-5 on the road trip thus far. The Blue Jays are 36-62 overall, 18-32 on the road and 48-47 with the under. Marcus Stroman gets the start for Toronto today. He is 5-10 on the season with a 3.25 ERA.
The Jays aren’t good on the mound or at the plate. The team averages just 4.28 runs per game while hitting a league-worst .231 at the plate. When it comes to pitching, Toronto has a 4.93 team ERA with a 1.47 WHIP. Freddy Galvis leads the team with 18 doubles, 15 home runs and 46 RBI. Randal Grichuk has 15 doubles, 16 home runs and 43 RBI.
Tigers can’t get on track
Detroit has lost four straight and nine of its last 10 after being swept in a four-game series at Cleveland. The Tigers are 29-63 overall, 12-32 at home and 44-42 with the under. Detroit has Jordan Zimmerman getting the start tonight. He is 0-6 on the year with a 7.01 ERA.
The Tigers rank near the bottom of the league in hitting and pitching as well. Detroit averages just 3.66 runs per game while hitting .234 as a team. On the mound, the Tigers have a 5.15 team ERA with a 1.43 team WHIP. Nicholas Castellanos is leading the team with 32 doubles, 10 home runs and 35 RBI. Brandon Dixon is adding nine doubles, 12 home runs and 37 RBI
MLB Betting Trends
Toronto
The Blue Jays have won four of their last five against AL Central opponents, but just 2-8 in their last 10 road games.
Detroit
The Tigers are 4-0 in their last four home games following a road trip of 7 or more days. However, they are just 8-20 in their last 28 series openers.
Prediction:
Neither team has great numbers, but the Blue Jays play in the challenging AL East while the Tigers play in an average AL Central. Stroman doesn’t have a great number of wins, but his pitching stats are pretty solid. He has allowed three runs or less in five straight starts. I think Stroman will really shine against the Tigers, who have little to offer at the plate. Zimmerman is really tanking right now. He has given up 14 runs over his last 7.1 innings. Zimmerman just doesn’t have the stuff and I can’t expect him to find it tonight.
MLB Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays -165
