Astros fall at Angels
Houston suffered a 9-6 defeat Monday night in a series opener at Los Angeles to drop to 59-36 overall and 26-22 on the road. George Springer paced the Astros offense as he finished 3-for-5 with two home runs, three runs scored and three RBIs. Alex Bregman was 1-for-4 with a walk, a run and an RBI. Yuli Gurriel was 2-for-4 plus a walk. Framber Valdez took the loss as he gave up seven runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking four. The Astros have not yet decided on their starting pitching for this contest.
Pujols guides Angels to win
Los Angeles secured its fourth straight win out of the All-Star Break as it topped visiting Houston by a count of 9-6. Albert Pujols led the offensive effort for the Angels as he went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Kevan Smith finished 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and three RBIs. Justin Upton ended the game 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. Justin Anderson notched the win in relief as he surrendered two earned runs on one hit with no strikeouts and two walks over one inning of work. Andrew Heaney will start tonight for LA as he comes in with a 1-3 record, 5.18 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 49 strikeouts over 41 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
The Astros are 9-4 in their last 13 games overall. Houston is 47-23 in its last 70 games overall.
The Angels are 4-0 in their last Tuesday games. Los Angeles is 9-4 in the last 13 Heaney starts.
It's difficult to put a gauge on this contest until we know who Houston is starting and we have odds, but the Astros do hit lefties well and Heaney has been inconsistent since returning from injury. Los Angeles is due for a poor performance, while Houston is in first place for good reason. I like the visitors to snap LA's win streak tonight.
