Rays vs. Angels Prediction
Will the Rays complete their sweep of the Angels on Sunday when the two teams complete their series at 3:37PM ET?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Rays are -165 money line favorites to beat the Angels, who have odds of +145 to pull off the upset at home. With Chris Archer set to face Parker Bridwell in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 9 runs.
From Rotoworld: Archer surrendered eight hits and three runs over 6 1/3 innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Red Sox. He finished the afternoon with eight strikeouts and two walks. Archer held the Red Sox in check for large stretches but ran out of gas in the seventh when he served up a two-run blast to Dustin Pedroia. He also allowed a home run to Mookie Betts in the game’s opening at-bat. Despite starting Sunday, Archer should be available to pitch an inning in Tuesday’s All-Star Game, where he’ll represent the American League for the second time in his career.
Bridwell will be called up to start Sunday against the Rays. He was sent down during the All-Star break but didn't appear in any games for Triple-A Salt Lake. Bridwell hasn't started a game since July 5 so he should be well-rested. The right-hander has pitched well since moving into the starting rotation, going 3-1 with a 3.64 ERA over five starts for the Halos.
OUR PREDICTION: The Rays are 5-1 in Archer's last six starts, are 4-1 in his last five road outings, and have won four straight overall. The Angels, meanwhile, have dropped four of five overall, are 1-5 in their last six home games and are 0-4 in their last four games versus Archer. The Rays are 23-8 in their last 31 games in Los Angeles as well.
