Blue Jays’ Storman pitches seven strong innings in last start
Marcus Stroman held the Braves to one run over seven innings in the Blue Jays’ 6-2 victory Tuesday. Stroman and Julio Teheran were locked in a pitcher’s duel for most of the night until the Jays broke things open against the Braves’ bullpen. The diminutive right-hander allowed six singles and two walks while whiffing five. He’s pitched well in three of four outings since returning from the disabled list, although he has mixed in one clunker. Stroman will have a tough final first-half start in Boston on Sunday.
Red Sox Johnson set to pitch on Sunday vs. Blue Jays
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Brian Johnson and Hector Velazquez are options to start Sunday against the Blue Jays. Johnson told beat writer Chris Cotillo of MassLive that he’ll be “good to go” for Sunday’s first-half finale. The left-hander was placed on the DL with hip inflammation last week, but obviously the injury was nothing serious. Johnson has mostly worked in a long relief capacity this year, though he’s gone 1-0 with an impressive 2.45 ERA over three starts for the first-place Red Sox.
MLB Betting Trends
Toronto
The Blue Jays have won all four of Stroman’s last four starts when he pitches the fourth game of a series.
Boston
The Red Sox are a perfect 8-0 in Johnson’s last eight starts.
Prediction:
Adrian Johnson is one of the best ‘over’ umpires in baseball and he’ll be behind the dish on Sunday. The over is 49-24-7 in his last 80 games behind home plate and is 7-2 in his last nine games behind home plate when he’s called a Boston game. The over is 8-1 in the last nine meetings between these two teams in Boston, is 5-1 in the last six meetings overall, and is 5-1 in Stroman’s last six starts when he faces the Red Sox.
The Pick: Blue Jays/Red Sox over 9.5
