Astros prevail in 11 innings
Houston held on for a 7-6 win in 11 innings Saturday night at Texas as it scored twice in the top of the 11th before giving up one in the bottom half. Jose Altuve helped lead the Astros offense as he finished 4-for-6 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI. Alex Bregman was 2-for-5 with a solo home run plus a walk. Michael Brantley went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Josh James picked up the win in relief as he walked one and struck out four over two scoreless frames. Roberto Osuna notched the save as he allowed one earned run on two hits with no strikeouts and one walk over one inning. Justin Verlander gets the start today for Houston as he enters with a 10-4 record, 2.98 ERA and 0.81 WHIP with 153 strikeouts over 126 2/3 innings.
Rangers hit three HRs in defeat
Texas lost 7-6 in 11 innings Saturday night at home to drop to 50-43 overall and 31-18 at home. Shin-Soo Choo helped lead the Rangers offensively as he ended the night 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored. Delino DeShields was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Danny Santana went 2-for-5 with a homer, a double and two runs scored. Brett Martin took the loss in relief as he surrendered two earned runs on two hits with no strikeouts and two walks over 1 2/3 innings. MLB Betting Trends
The Astros are 22-5 in the last 27 Verlander road starts. Houston is 8-3 in its last 11 games overall.
The Rangers are 7-20 in their last four game fours of a series. Texas is 8-2 in its last 10 games versus a right-handed starting pitcher.
Verlander might be giving up a ton of home runs this season, but he's still proven to be a dominant pitcher at age 36. He gets a little extra time off due to the break, though he did start the All-Star Game. I'm thinking he has a plenty strong performance here to get the job done as Houston should get to Jurado early and often. The high over-under is indicative of the Rangers' starting pitcher plus their offensive-friendly stadium. Definitely siding with the Astros here.
