Angels’ Heaney strikes out 10 in win over Dodgers
Andrew Heaney racked up 10 strikeouts over seven innings of three-run ball in Sunday night’s victory over the Dodgers. The left-hander allowed just three hits and three walks on the night. The only damage against him came on a three-run blast by Yasiel Puig in the second inning, but he was in complete command otherwise. It’s the second straight start, and third time this season, that Heaney has struck out 10 batters. He’ll carry a 3.94 ERA and 1.17 WHIP into his final start of the first half, a rematch against these Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on Saturday.
Dodgers’ Kershaw goes six scoreless innings in win vs. Padres
Clayton Kershaw fired six scoreless innings and struck out five in an 8-2 victory over the Padres on Monday. Kershaw gave up just two hits in the effort — singles by pitcher Luis Perdomo and Wil Myers — and he walked one while striking out five. The Padres lineup isn’t a great test, but the southpaw was exceptional on Monday, throwing 60-of-89 pitches for strikes and giving up very little hard contact. Kershaw isn’t missing bats at the same level we’ve become accustomed, but his ERA sits at 2.61 with a strong 70/13 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 69 innings. His final start before the All-Star break will come on Saturday against the Angels.
MLB Betting Trends
LA Angels
The Angels are just 3-7 in Heaney’s last 10 starts.
LA Dodgers
The Dodgers have won five straight home games.
Prediction:
The over is 4-0 in Kershaw’s last four starts, is 5-1 in his last six home outings and is 4-0 in his last four starts coming off four days of rest. Meanwhile, the over is 41-20-1 in David Rackley’s last 62 games behind home plate. With one of the best ‘over’ umpires in baseball behind the dish, I’ll take my chances that runs keep being scored in Kershaw starts.
The Pick: Angels/Dodgers over 7.5
