Rizzo, Baez spark Cubs
Chicago first baseman Anthony Rizzo tied the score at 4-4 in the ninth inning with two outs and down to his last strike, socking an RBI double that scored Jason Heyward. In the 10th inning, second baseman Javier Baez proceeded to steal second and raced around to home on the same play due to Padres errors by catcher Austin Hedges and center fielder Manuel Margot. Rizzo led off and went 3-for-5 with two doubles plus the RBI. Baez was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and two runs. Ian Happ went 1-for-4 with two doubles. Pedro Strop struck out the side in a perfect inning of work to earn the win. Brandon Morrow worked around a hit and struck out one in the bottom of the 10th for his 21st save.
Jankowski paces Padres
San Diego right fielder and leadoff hitter Travis Jankowski finished 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs to lead the way in the defeat. Carlos Asuaje went 2-for-4 with a walk. Hedges ended the day 3-for-5 with an RBI. Adam Cimber took the loss as he gave up one unearned run on one hit with no strikeouts and no walks in an inning of work.
Kyle Hendricks (5-8, 3.93 ERA) will start today for Chicago, while San Diego counters with Luis Perdomo (1-3, 7.09).
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are 10-3 in their last 13 games overall. The over is 8-3 in the last 13 Chicago road games.
San Diego
The Padres are 7-20 in their last 27 games overall. San Diego is 8-3 in its last 11 Saturday games.
Prediction:
Hendricks is a much better pitcher than Perdomo, but even he has had an up-and-down season. It is likely the Cubs get to Perdomo, but I’d imagine Hendricks gives up a few runs as well. Taking the Cubs on the moneyline is probably the safest play, but the more beneficial could be taking the over on this game.
