Astros blow late lead
Houston led by four runs in the seventh inning before giving up five runs over the last three innings Friday night in a 9-8 loss at Texas. Roberto Osuna took the loss in relief as he gave up one earned run on two hits with one strikeout and one walk over two-thirds of an inning. Yordan Alvarez led the Astros offense as he went 3-for-3 with two solo home runs, a walk and three runs scored. Yuli Gurriel finished 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Jose Altuve ended the contest 1-for-5 with a solo homer. Wade Miley draws the start tonight for Houston as he enters with a 7-4 record, 3.28 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 86 strikeouts over 101 2/3 innings.
Rangers rally, win on walk-off hit
Danny Santana drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth Friday night at home as Texas rallied past Houston by a score of 9-8. Santana finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Shin-Soo Choo went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs. Tim Federowicz was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Joey Gallo finished 1-for-4 with a solo home run plus a walk. Ronald Guzman ended the contest 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Shawn Kelley picked up the win in relief as he threw one spotless frame. Mike Minor gets the start tonight as he comes in with an 8-4 record, 2.54 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with 114 strikeouts over 117 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Houston
The Astros are 3-8 in their last 11 road games. Houston is 10-4 in the last 14 Miley starts.
Texas
The Rangers are 5-2 in their last seven home games. Texas is 5-1 in the last six Minor starts.
Prediction:
Texas is putting a ton of stock into this series and its fans have been loud throughout as it has trimmed two games off the Astros’ lead in the AL West. With Minor getting extra rest heading into this start, he should pick up right where he left off after a fantastic first half. While Houston has an outstanding offense, it is without third baseman Alex Bregman after he took a grounder to the jaw in the series opener. That definitely impacts the Astros offense and I’m thinking the Rangers can take advantage in this spot.
