Tigers drop fourth straight
Detroit has lost four straight and seven of its last eight after dropping this series opener to KC on Friday, 8-5. The Tigers are now 28-58 overall, 16-26 on the road and 42-38 with the under. Detroit has Matthew Boyd taking the mound today. He is 6-6 on the year with a 3.87 ERA.
Detroit led early in this game, but three runs late from the Royals gave KC the edge. Spencer Turnbull struggled in his start, allowing five runs over three innings. Blaine Hardy then took the loss in relief, allowing two runs in the seventh. At the plate, Nicholas Castellanos hit his 30th double of the season and drove in a run while Victor Reyes had three hits and scored twice.
Royals open with win
Kansas City opened the second half of the season with an 8-5 win over Detroit. It was just the second win in eight games for the Royals. KC is 31-61 on the season, 17-28 at home and 46-41 with the over. Brad Keller gets the start for the Royals this evening. He is 4-9 on the year with a 4.47 ERA.
Home runs by Martin Maldonado and Jorge Soler late in the game allowed the Royals to pick up the victory. Soler now has 24 home runs and 61 RBI on the year. Nicky Lopez added three hits in the win. On the mound, Danny Duffy gave up four runs over just two innings of work, but the KC bullpen was solid. The Royals had five arms threw seven innings of 1-run ball. Jake Newberry got the win in relief while Ian Kennedy earned his 12th save with a perfect ninth.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are just 29-61 in their last 90 road games and 2-7 in their last nine Saturday games.
Kansas City
The Royals are only 2-5 in their last seven home games and 3-11 in Keller’s last 14 starts.
Prediction:
Boyd hasn’t been terribly strong as of late, allowing at least four runs in four straight starts, including five in four innings at KC on June 13. Keller has been hit-and-miss, coming off a 1-run outing against the Nationals, but he also has given up six runs to the Jays and seven to the Mariners lately. However, Keller has been stuck with an unlucky schedule, as nine of his last 10 starts were on the road. He actually has a 3.82 ERA at home over six starts. Today he is at home against a horrible Detroit lineup. The Tigers have no hitting and a very shaky bullpen. I can’t trust them as a road favorite against anyone.
MLB Prediction: Kansas City Royals +100
