Rays’ Eovaldi takes perfect game into seventh inning
Nathan Eovaldi pitched seven shutout innings while allowing just one hit and striking out nine in a 9-0 victory over the Mets on Sunday. Eovaldi was perfect through six innings, but Brandon Nimmo ruined the fun by singling in the top of the seventh to end the perfecto and the no-hit bid. That was it for baserunners against the right-hander, however, and Eovaldi was downright dominant on Sunday afternoon. This makes two-of-three starts that the right-hander hasn’t allowed a run, and the nine punch-outs with no walks ups his strikeout-to-walk ratio to an impressive 44/6 mark. He’ll look to keep this going when he’s back on the mound on Friday against the Twins.
Twins’ Odorizzi works six shutout innings vs. Orioles
Jake Odorizzi worked six shutout innings Sunday in victory over the Orioles. Odorizzi issued just one walk and scattered five hits while striking out five Baltimore hitters. The 28-year-old right-hander had some struggles in June, but he’s now pitched well in three straight outings. Up next is a matchup against the Rays, who traded him to the Twins back in February.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 6-1 in their last seven games coming off a loss.
Minnesota
The Twins are 8-1 in their last nine home games.
Prediction:
The under is 5-1 in Eovaldi’s last six road starts, is 4-1 in his last five outings overall, and is 34-15-2 in their last 21 games overall. On the other side, the under is 5-1-1 in Odorizzi’s last seven starts versus an opponent with a winning record and is 6-2-1 in his last nine outings when their opponent allows five runs or more in their previous game.
The Pick: Rays/Twins under 8.5
