Rays salvage split
After dropping the first two games of its home four-game series versus New York, Tampa Bay finished with a pair of wins including a 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon to head into the All-Star Break. Charlie Morton helped pave the way on the mound as he gave up one earned run on five hits with 10 strikeouts and one walks over 5 2/3 innings to pick up the win. Emilio Pagan struck out two over one perfect inning of relief to earn his fifth save. Tommy Pham helped lead the Rays offense as he went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI. Avisail Garcia was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Yandy Diaz was 2-for-4 with a double. Yonny Chirinos draws the start tonight as he enters with a 7-4 record, 3.15 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 81 strikeouts over 100 innings.
O’s stumble into break
Baltimore lost by a count of 6-1 Sunday afternoon to wrap up its series at Toronto and head into the All-Star Break 27-62 overall and 16-31 on the road. Chance Sisco led the Orioles offense as he went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Chris Davis finished 2-for-3 with a double. Renato Nunez ended the game 1-for-4 with a double. Asher Wojciechowski took the loss as he gave up three earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts and three walks over 4 1/3 innings. Dylan Bundy will start tonight as he comes in with a 4-10 record, 4.65 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 96 strikeouts over 91 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 3-7 in their last 10 road games. Tampa Bay is 0-5 in the last five Chirinos starts.
Baltimore
The Orioles are 15-40 in their last 55 Friday games. Baltimore is 13-49 in its last 62 series openers.
Prediction:
I can’t imagine a few days off will help the Orioles much. Baltimore has struggled no matter who the opponent and with Tampa Bay having the pitching plus offense advantages here, I don’t think the Orioles’ home-field advantage really means much. Tampa Bay knows it has ground to make up in the playoff race and beating a far inferior team will be important. With a fresh bullpen in tow, expect the Rays to take this one.
