Rangers’ Colon pitches well in loss to Tigers
Bartolo Colon pitched well in a losing effort against the Tigers on Friday night, surrendering three runs on five hits over his eight innings. The 45-year-old hurler struck out three on the night and didn’t walk a batter while working a complete game. All of the damage against him came via the long ball, with James McCann blasting a two-run homer in the second inning and JaCoby Jones launching a solo shot in the eighth. Colon will carry a 4.65 ERA and 1.17 WHIP into a difficult matchup against the Red Sox in Boston on Wednesday. While he has pitched better than anticipated for the Rangers, he still isn’t a recommended fantasy option, especially at Fenway.
Red Sox’ Sale strikes out 12, allows one run in win vs. Royals
Chris Sale struck out 12 batters and allowed just one run in six innings to earn a 10-5 win over the Royals on Friday. He was dominant and the Royals couldn’t do much of anything against him. The ace southpaw scattered five hits and one walk in addition to the 12 strikeouts. It was his fourth double-figure strikeout game in a row. He improves to 9-4 with a 2.36 ERA and 0.89 WHIP after 19 starts. He leads the majors with 176 strikeouts and has issued 30 walks in 122 innings pitched. He ranks seventh in the majors in ERA and fourth in WHIP.
