Rays vs. Mets Prediction

Tampa Bay Rays vs. New York Mets 7/8/18, Prediction & Odds

Shutdown pitching got the job done yesterday as the Tampa Bay Rays evened up their interleague series at the New York Mets at a game apiece. Is Tampa Bay a smart bet today to win the game and the series?

Snell tosses shutout

Blake Snell improved to 12-4 on the season with a 2.09 ERA as he threw 7 1/3 shutout innings in a 3-0 win at the Mets on Saturday. He gave up six hits while striking out nine and walking three. Sergio Romo pitched a perfect ninth with a strikeout to earn his ninth save. Matt Duffy went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run. Wilson Ramos finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Carlos Gomez was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Flores racks up three hits

New York's Wilmer Flores had a 3-for-4 game with a double Saturday, while the rest of his teammates combined for four more hits. Brandon Nimmo was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Steven Matz was the tough-luck losing pitcher as he allowed one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks over 6 1/3 innings.

Nathan Eovaldi (2-3, 3.92 ERA) will start today for the Rays, while Chris Flexen (0-1, 10.80) is going to take the mound for the Mets.

MLB Betting Trends

Tampa Bay

The Rays are 3-14 in their last 17 road games. Tampa Bay is 3-10 in its last 13 interleague games.

New York

The Mets are 5-16 in their last 21 interleague games. New York is 8-22 in its last 30 home games.

Tampa Bay has struggled on the road lately, but this is the Mets we are talking about. The pitching matchup should favor the Rays again and Flexen isn't going to fool many batters. If you want to be gutsy, go for the runline bet but I'm going to stick with the straight moneyline wager.
