Dodgers’ Wood allows one run over six in blowout win over Pirates
Alex Wood allowed one run over six innings in a victory over the Pirates on Monday. Wood got a month’s worth of run support in this one, but he didn’t need it as he scattered six hits and struck out three without allowing a walk. The 27-year-old left-hander has pitched well over his past five starts after his struggles near the end of May/beginning of June, and his ERA has dropped from 4.43 to 3.84 thanks to it. He’ll try and make it six straight strong performances on Sunday against the Angels.
Angels’ Heaney strikes out 10 in road loss to Mariners
Andrew Heaney allowed three earned runs, five hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts over seven innings in a loss at Seattle on Tuesday. Heaney rebounded nicely after being knocked around for six runs and eight hits over 3 1/3 innings last time out in Boston. It was also much better than his most recent trip to Seattle when he coughed up five earned runs and seven hits in just three innings on June 11. However, he received little support and took the loss despite the quality start. He’ll try to get back into the win column on Sunday Night Baseball in the Freeway Series finale against Alex Wood and the Dodgers.
MLB Betting Trends
LA Dodgers
The Dodgers are 4-0 in Wood’s last four starts and 4-1 in his last five road outings.
LA Angels
The Angels have lost four of Heaney’s last five starts and five straight when he pitches the third game of a series.
Prediction:
The under is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams but I like the over tonight. In his last eight starts, the over is 6-2 when Wood pitches and is 5-2 in his last seven outings coming off five days of rest. The over is also 5-1 in the Dodgers’ last six games coming off a win and 5-1 in their last six interleague road games when facing a left-handed starter. Even though this is a pitcher’s park, both offenses are capable of more and should prove so tonight.
The Pick: Dodgers/Angels over 8.5
