Athletics come up short
Oakland had won six of its last seven coming into Saturday, but the Athletics suffered a 6-3 loss to the Mariners last night. Oakland is now 49-41 on the season, 23-21 on the road and 47-43 with the under. Daniel Mengden gets the start today. He is 3-1 on the season with a 4.67 ERA.
The Athletics couldn’t get much going on offense Saturday while Seattle had a burst in the middle of the game to get the victory. Oakland finished with just six hits, two of which were home runs. Both Ramon Laureano and Matt Olson went long in the game and each finished with two hits. Laureano had two RBI. Chris Bassitt had a poor start on the mound, allowing all six Seattle runs over 4.1 innings on seven hits. He is now 5-4 on the year.
Mariners bounce back
Seattle had lost seven of its last eight games coming into Saturday, but got a bit of momentum going with the 6-3 win. Seattle is now 39-54 overall, 19-28 at home and 57-32 with the over. The Mariners have Matt Carasiti getting the start this afternoon. He is 0-0 on the season with a 1.80 ERA.
Marco Gonzales had a strong outing on the mound on Saturday. He threw eight innings and allowed just two runs on eight hits to get his 10th win of the 2019 season. At the plate, Seattle had just seven hits, but made them count with a four-run fourth inning and a two-run fifth. Kyle Seager drove in three runs and hit his sixth home run of the year in the win while Daniel Vogelbach hit his 21st home run of the year.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The Athletics have won 10 of their last 11 games following a loss and four straight Game 3’s of a series.
Seattle
The Mariners are 5-16 in their last 21 games following a win while losing three straight Game 3’s of a series.
Prediction:
Carasiti is a relief starter, going just one inning in all five appearances this year, so the Mariners will be relying on their bullpen a lot today, which isn’t a strength of the team. Mengden hasn’t been sharp as of late, getting lit up by the Angels and Twins in two of his last three starts. However, he did pitch four strong innings against Seattle in May. I don’t expect the Mariners hitting to be great consistently, while Oakland has been playing well for an extended period of time. I think the Athletics will tag the Seattle arms while Mengden does enough to keep Oakland out front.
MLB Prediction: Oakland Athletics -140
