Cardinals’ Gant allows four runs in loss to Braves
John Gant yielded four earned runs over 5 1/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Braves. Gant allowed just one run over seven scoreless innings in his last start Monday against the Indians, but things didn’t come as easy for him in this one. Charlie Culberson hit an RBI double in the top of the second and then Freddie Freeman clubbed a two-run homer in the top of the sixth, which kicked off a five-run inning for the visiting Braves. Gant, who’s filling in for the injured Michael Wacha, lines up to face the Giants on the road next time out.
Giants’ Rodriguez dominant in road win vs. Diamondbacks
Dereck Rodriguez scattered six hits with two walks and five strikeouts over 6 1/3 scoreless innings in a road win against the Diamondbacks on Saturday. Rodriguez threw 68 of his 102 pitches for strikes, including 16 first-pitch strikes to the 25 batters he faced. After two disastrous road outings in Denver and D.C., Pudge’s son has posted quality starts in each of his past two outings. He hasn’t lost over his past four starts, too. He’ll look to record back-to-back wins for the first time in his career when he takes the ball Thursday evening at home against the Cardinals.
MLB Betting Trends
St. Louis
The Cardinals are 1-6 in Gant’s last seven starts.
San Francisco
The Giants are 11-2 in their last 13 home games versus a right-handed starter.
Prediction:
The Cardinals have won six of their last seven games against the Giants at AT&T Park and have won five of their last six games versus the Giants overall. San Francisco, meanwhile, is winless in its last four games, is just 1-4 in its last five games versus the National League Central, and has dropped four of five after scoring two runs or less in its previous start. The Cardinals are starting to heat up again while the Giants have been dreadful since sweeping Arizona.
The Pick: St. Louis Cardinals +101
