Rockies’ Marquez dominant in victory over Dodgers
German Marquez dominated the Dodgers in a 3-1 win on Saturday, allowing just one run on two hits over eight innings in the victory. Marquez was perfect through the first five innings before allowing a solo homer to Enrique Hernandez to start the sixth. After that, he was back to brilliance, and he fanned nine hitters without walking a batter. Calling this one of his best starts of the year is an understatement, and the eight strong innings lowers his season ERA to 5.14 with 93 strikeouts over 91 innings accumulated over 17 starts. We’ll see Marquez toe the rubber again on Friday against the Mariners.
Mariners’ Hernandez good to go vs. Rockies despite back stiffness
Felix Hernandez is dealing with a stiff back but is still expected to make his scheduled start Friday against the Rockies. The injury bothered Hernandez during his last start Saturday versus Kansas City, but he made it through a bullpen session earlier this week and shouldn’t have any restrictions when he toes the rubber Friday against Colorado. King Felix has had a disappointing year, at least by his standards, compiling a mediocre 5.11 ERA over 18 starts for the M’s.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The Rockies have lost nine of Marquez’s last 13 starts when he’s coming off five days of rest.
Seattle
The Mariners have won 21 of their last 26 games at home.
Prediction:
The Rockies are coming off a sweep of the Giants and are now 6-1 in their last seven games overall. They’re also 4-1 in Marquez’s last five interleague starts, are 4-1 in their last five games coming off a win, and are 4-0 in their last four games when facing a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30. On the other side, the Mariners are just 1-4 in Hernandez’s last five home starts when he takes on an opponent with a winning record.
The Pick: Colorado Rockies +115
