Julio Teheran turned in six shutout innings and allowed just two base hits in a win over the Cardinals on Friday. He struck out four, walked two and yielded just a pair of hits in the gem outing. He threw only 88 pitches before being relieved in what was a scoreless tie game at the time. The Braves scored a run in the next inning to put Teheran in line for the win. He improves to 6-5 with a 4.21 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 16 starts. He has 77 strikeouts, 41 walks and 15 homers allowed in 87 2/3 innings.
Yankees’ Sabathia shuts down Red Sox in last start
CC Sabathia turned in a terrific performance in Friday’s victory over the Red Sox, allowing just one run on six hits over his seven frames. The 37-year-old hurler was in complete command against his division rival, striking out five and issuing just one free pass. The only blemish on his night was an RBI double by Andrew Benintendi in the fifth inning. He’ll carry an impressive 3.02 ERA and 1.24 WHIP into Wednesday’s start against the Braves.
