Braves’ Newcomb posts quality start versus Reds
Sean Newcomb allowed three runs over six innings Wednesday in a no-decision versus the Reds. Newcomb gave up seven hits — including a home run — and walked a pair while notching six strikeouts. He left the game in line for his ninth win but watched the Braves’ bullpen blow it. Twelve of Newcomb’s 16 outings this season have been of the “quality start” variety. He will face the Yankees and Brewers on the road next week.
Yankees’ German shelled in no decision vs. Rays
Domingo German was rocked for six runs on nine hits in just three innings in a loss to the Rays on Sunday. German was brilliant against the Mariners in his start on Tuesday. That would not be an accurate description of his start against Tampa Bay on Sunday. The right-hander wasn’t fooling anyone with his stuff in his three innings, and the command of his arsenal was poor. We’ll call it an off-day for German, but off-days haven’t been all that uncommon, as seen in his 5.40 ERA over 63 2/3 innings. He’ll attempt to show the stuff he displayed against Seattle in his next outing, scheduled for Saturday against the Red Sox.
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are 11-1 in their last 12 games when facing a team with a winning record.
New York
The Yankees have won 38 of 53 following a loss in their previous game.
Prediction:
German is coming off the worst start of his career, allowing six runs on nine hits through three innings against a light-hitting Rays lineup. His ERA rose to 5.40 following the outing and now he faces a hot Braves offense that is starting to fire on all cylinders. The Braves have won five of Newcomb’s last seven road starts and are 5-1 in his last six outings coming off five days of rest.
The Pick: Atlanta Braves +165
