Royals avoid sweep
The Kansas City Royals ended their three-game losing streak on Sunday with a 7-6 win over Toronto to avoid a potential sweep today. KC is 29-55 overall, 13-30 on the road and 41-38 with the over. The Royals have Glenn Sparkman on the mound today. He is 2-3 on the season with a 4.07 ERA.
For a high-scoring, 1-run game, it was actually pretty quiet late. Both teams were held scoreless over their last four innings. KC fell behind 5-1 after two innings, but scored five runs in the third to lead for good. Jorge Soler hit his 22nd home run of the season and finished the game with two hits and two RBI. Alex Gordon also drove in a pair of runs. Brad Keller got the win despite allowing six runs in five innings. He improves to 4-9 on the season. The KC bullpen threw four hitless innings, with Ian Kennedy getting his 11th save.
Blue Jays edged
Toronto took the first two games in this series before losing 7-6 at home on Sunday. The Blue Jays are now 31-53 overall, 15-26 at home and 42-39 with the over. Toronto has Clayton Richard taking the mound this afternoon. He is 0-4 on the season with a 6.89 ERA.
The Jays couldn’t hold on to an early lead as Aaron Sanchez gave up six runs over three innings, allowing four walks and seven hits. He falls to 3-11 on the year. At the plate Justin Smoak had two home runs and drove in three runs. He now has 14 home runs on the year. Luke Maile also drove in a pair of runs for the Jays in the loss.
MLB Betting Trends
Kansas City
The Royals are 20-49 in their last 69 road games. They also are 1-5 in their last six Game 4’s of a series.
Toronto
The Blue Jays are 3-8 in their last 11 home games and 7-17 in their last 24 games following a loss.
Prediction:
Neither starter it terribly reliable today, but Richard has really been getting beat up for the last month. He has allowed 19 runs over his last 18.2 innings. Sparkman hasn’t been great, but not nearly as bad. Three of his last five starts have seen him allow just two earned runs or less. With the hitting about equal, I will give the edge to KC behind their better pitching.
MLB Prediction: Kansas City Royals +130
