Rockies’ Bettis sharp in road no-decision vs. Giants
Chad Bettis allowed two earned runs, six hits and four walks with four strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision Tuesday in San Francisco. Bettis threw 67 of his 109 pitches for strikes, and two of the walks he issued were of the intentional variety. He also had a walk and a sacrifice while at the plate to help out his cause. Unfortunately, it was Adam Ottavino allowing a rare run to take the loss in relief. He’ll look to rebound on Sunday afternoon against Ross Stripling and the Dodgers.
Dodgers’ Stripling just so-so in no-decision vs. Cubs
Ross Stripling allowed one earned run while scattering seven hits with a walk and four strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Wednesday. Stripling threw 58 of his 86 pitches for strikes, including an impressive 17 first-pitch strikes to the 22 batters he faced. In fact, he might have been catching too much of the plate, but he still managed to wiggle out of trouble and strand base runners. He hasn’t won in two outings after winning six straight starts from May 19-June 15, but he still carries a sub-2.00 ERA with a stellar 1.07 WHIP. He’ll look to get back into the win column Sunday against the visiting Rockies.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The Rockies have won seven of their last nine games when playing the third game of a series.
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 5-1 in their last six games played on Sunday.
Prediction:
Perhaps Nolan Arenado should voice his frustration more often. After telling the media how sick and tired of losing he was, the Rockies have rattled off two straight wins against a previously hot Dodgers team thanks to outstanding pitching. I like them again today, too. Bettis has pitched better than his numbers would indicate and has fared well against this current L.A. team, too. In 149 career plate appearances versus this current Dodgers roster, Bettis owns a 3.55 FIP. The Rockies are also 14-6 in Bettis’ last 20 starts coming off a quality start in his previous outing.
The Pick: Colorado Rockies +1.5 (-115)
