Oakland A’s Fantasy Spin
Matt Chapman went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk to power the Athletics to a 4-0 victory over the Angels on Saturday. Chapman socked an opposite-field, two-run homer — his 20th long ball of the season — off Angels reliever Trevor Cahill in the fifth inning. The 26-year-old third baseman has served as the Athletics main offensive catalyst, hitting .264/.353/.532 with 55 runs scored and 46 RBI across 360 plate appearances. Given the current league-wide power environment and Chapman’s prodigious raw talent, he has a realistic shot at eclipsing the 40-homer plateau with a strong second half.
Los Angeles Angels Fantasy Spin
Justin Upton went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in the Angels’ loss to the Athletics on Saturday. The Angels simply had nothing brewing offensively as Athletics starter Brett Anderson and closer Liam Hendriks combined on a three-hit shutout. They had only one runner advance into scoring position and stranded four base runners total in the loss. The 31-year-old veteran slugger hasn’t missed a beat, clobbering three home runs in 44 plate appearances, since returning from the injured list earlier this month.
