Brewers’ Marquez worked over at home by Marlins
German Marquez was gashed for six runs – five earned – and nine hits with three walks and six strikeouts over 3 1/3 innings in a loss Sunday against the Marlins. At least Marquez salvaged the stat line somewhat for fantasy owners with a healthy amount of strikeouts, but he was all over the board in Sunday’s series finale. The starter threw just 52 of his 82 pitches for strikes, while Trevor Story didn’t help matters by booting a grounder. Marquez managed first-pitch strikes to just 12 of the 24 batters he faced. He’ll look to rebound next Saturday on the road against the Dodgers. Marquez is 2-5 with a 7.93 ERA in nine starts at home, but he is 3-3 with a 3.07 ERA in seven starts on the road. Marquez is also 1-0 with a 3.46 ERA in two outings against L.A., and the Dodgers are hitting just .188 against him over 13 innings.
Maeda blanks Cubs over seven innings in win
Kenta Maeda blanked the Cubs over seven innings while allowing three hits and striking out nine in a 2-1 victory on Monday. Maeda struggled against the Cubs in his previous start on Tuesday, but he had no such issues against the Chicago lineup in this one. He allowed three hits, and he walked just one; a big improvement over the five he allowed in the previous outing. Maeda’s ERA now sits at 3.44, and he’s struck out 80 hitters over his 68 innings. His next scheduled start comes Saturday against the Rockies.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The Rockies have not won on Saturday in their last six tries.
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 10-2 in their last 12 games coming off a loss.
Prediction:
Maeda has been excellent against the Rockies over his career. The current Colorado roster has faced Maeda in 108 plate appearances and they’ve struck out a whopping 30.6% of the time and have batted just .204 against him over that stretch. His FIP is 2.97, where as Marquez owns a 7.03 FIP over 77 plate appearances versus the current L.A. roster. This is a mismatch tonight, at least from a starting pitching standpoint.
The Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (+120)
