Alcuna returns to lineup
Atlanta super prospect Ronald Alcuna returned to the lineup after an extended absence with an injury last night as he went 0-for-4 with a walk in a 5-1 victory at the Cardinals. Julio Teheran threw six shutout innings to earn the win, giving up two hits while striking out four and walking two. Dan Winkler threw two-thirds of an inning and struck out one to earn his first save of the season. Johan Camargo went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs to pace the offense. Dansby Swanson was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Wong drives in lone run
The Cardinals were shut down at home as Kolten Wong went 0-for-4, but did contribute the only RBI in the defeat. Matt Carpenter was 1-for-3 with a walk. Marcell Ozuna finished 1-for-4 and scored the run. Tommy Pham went 0-for-2, but did draw two walks. Miles Mikolas was the tough-luck losing pitcher as he gave up one earned run on seven hits with one strikeout and one walk over 6 1/3 innings.
Max Fried (0-2, 4.09 ERA) will be called up to start today for the Braves, while the Cardinals are turning to Luke Weaver (4-6, 4.59).
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are 7-1 in their last eight games vs. a team with a winning record. Atlanta is 0-4 in its last four during game two of a series.
St. Louis
The Cardinals are 4-1 in their last five games. St. Louis is 4-1 in its last five games Weaver has started.
Prediction:
Fried has been hittable at the MLB level, while Weaver has struggled to put it together this season after being fantastic in his call-up a year ago. Despite the struggles of these two offenses, I expect runs to pile up tonight. Atlanta has the top offense in the National League, while the Cardinals have a number of hitters who can hit lefties hard. Bet on the over here.
